Have you ever waited on a serviceman to come in one of those infinitely long windows of time? You can’t stand at the door and wait all day but if you don’t watch diligently, you might miss them and have to start the process all over again.
The best thing to do is leave the door wide open or tape a “Come on In” sign to let them know they are welcome. You can focus on the tasks at hand while they know they’re welcome when they arrive.
We should do the same with estranged relationships. Leave the door open and go about your business. Don’t stand in the doorway watching and waiting, building up resentment or fear. Don’t call repeatedly for an ETA. Hang the welcome sign, leave the door open, and gone on with your life.
There is a time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to be silent, and a time to speak. Ecclesiastes 3:7
